A six-week small-group series with Pelvic PT Plus
Understand the system first — then learn how to control it.
Joseph Pilates originally called his method Contrology — a practice built around conscious, purposeful control of movement. But there is an interesting question buried in that idea: how do you control something you have never learned to feel?
Most of us have heard cues like “engage your core,” “pull your belly in,” “brace,” or “connect to your center.” They sound straightforward, but they assume you already understand what coordinated core and pelvic-floor function feels like. If no one has ever taught you how your pelvic floor, abdominal wall, breath, spine, and pressure system work together, how would you know whether you are actually doing what the cue is asking?
Your body will still find a way to perform the movement. You may grip, hold your breath, bear down, over-recruit one area, or compensate somewhere else entirely. The movement may look perfectly correct from the outside while the strategy your body is using to create it is very different from what is intended.
In other words, you don’t know what you don’t know.
You’ve always been curious about Pilates but never quite felt like it was for you. This is a more thoughtful place to begin.
You’re coming back after surgery, pregnancy, illness, injury, or simply a long time away — and want a guided, intelligent re-entry.
You’ve practiced for years, yet still leak, feel pressure, have an unresolved diastasis, or sense your core isn’t truly connecting.
A skilled Pilates instructor is trained to teach Pilates. That is the point at which Dr. Tanvi Maharaja’s background changes the conversation. As a board-certified pelvic and orthopedic rehabilitation physical therapist with over 25 years of experience, she brings an altogether different layer of expertise: the clinical education to understand the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems producing movement, recognize compensation patterns and symptom responses, and identify when someone may benefit from more individualized assessment.
The distinction is important. This is not simply about learning what movement to do. It is about beginning to understand what your body is actually doing while you do it.
Over six weeks, you’ll explore foundational Pilates movement while building a genuine understanding of the system beneath it.
Learn how your breath, spine, and intra-abdominal pressure work together — so cues like "engage your core" finally make sense.
Begin to actually feel your pelvic floor, not just squeeze it on command, and understand how it coordinates with the rest of your core.
Move past compensation patterns — gripping, bracing, breath-holding — toward true, coordinated core engagement.
Develop an internal reference point for effective coordination and learn to recognize when your body may benefit from individualized assessment.
This is not a large, open-enrollment fitness class. The Fall Cohort is intentionally small, allowing Dr. Maharaja to provide a degree of observation, cueing, and hands-on adjustment that simply isn’t possible in a crowded group setting. Because of that, enrollment is by application rather than registration.
Three time slots are offered. You’ll choose one that works best for you for the full six-week duration of the program. Each class is one hour, limited to five participants.
